Where Great Wine Begins
Where Great Wine Begins

"The best vineyards in the world see water."
André Tchelistcheff to John Bargetto
Perched atop a scenic knoll in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, Regan Estate Vineyards is one of the region’s largest and most diverse vineyard properties. Thirty-five planted acres feature twelve varietals and clones, all influenced by cooling maritime breezes from the nearby Monterey Bay.
Abundant sunshine, coastal influence, and well-drained soils produce fruit with vibrant acidity, concentrated flavors, and exceptional balance. The result is a collection of distinctive wines that showcase the character of the Santa Cruz Mountains and form the foundation of many of Bargetto Winery’s most celebrated wines.
Regan Vineyards
Located 15 miles east of Bargetto Winery in Corralitos, the estate benefits from one of California’s coolest vineyard climates. The long growing season, combined with diverse soils ranging from loamy clay to sandy and rocky hillside blocks, allows each vineyard parcel to express its unique character.

Our Varietals
In recognition of how this delicate wine thrives in this cool-climate site, Pinot Noir is the dominant varietal at Regan Vineyards. Four clones of Pinot Noir have been planted at Regan Estate Vineyards: Mount Eden, Pommard, Dijon 115 and Martini. Each clone is vinified separately and then either bottled alone or blended together. Today, Bargetto Winery produces five wines from Regan Estate Pinot Noir grapes: Mount Eden clone, Reserve, Pommard clone, Dijon 115 clone and the Santa Cruz Mountains blend. Each wine is distinct and reflects the unique and complex terroir of Regan Vineyards.

Two clones of Chardonnay grow at Regan Vineyards. The Mount Eden clone was brought to the Santa Cruz Mountains by Paul Masson in the late 19th century from Corton-Charlemagne in Burgundy, France. It is one of the most expensive Chardonnays in the world, offering a unique, rich wine with a distinctive mineral character. The Mt. Eden clone is the foundation of Bargetto's Reserve Chardonnay.
Clone 4 is a large cluster clone, and is the typical selection in most north coast vineyards. This clone yields grapes with deep fruitiness and sturdy acidity, critical for long aging.

Traditionally planted in warm climates, Merlot has been found to thrive in the cool climate of Regan Estate Vineyards, and it has become a regular award-winning wine. The finest Merlot from Regan goes into the Reserve wine (blended with Cabernet Sauvignon). Regan also produces a softer Santa Cruz Mountains Merlot crafted with a shorter drinking window in mind.

Bargetto Winery was a pioneer in California by producing and growing Pinot Grigio in the early 1990s. Pinot Grigio is a relative to Pinot Noir, and its name means “gray” pinot in Italian, but its color when ripe is actually closer to bronze. The approachable fruitiness of Pinot Grigio appeals to a wide range of wine enthusiasts. Pinot Grigio has been our best-selling wine for the last twenty years.

Three varietals go into the production of our ultra premium LA VITA blend: Dolcetto, Refosco and Nebbiolo. Dolcetto is native to Castelnuovo Don Bosco, the hometown of the Bargettos in the Piemonte region of northern Italy. It produces the most grandiose size clusters, some weighing more than two pounds.
Bargetto also produces a 100% Dolcetto wine. Dolcetto is often mistaken for a grape that produces sweet wine due to its name. But the Regan Dolcetto has big. age-worthy tannic structure, setting it apart from Italian Dolcettos, many of which are designed to be enjoyed young.

In the Piemonte region of Italy, the Nebbiolo grape yields two of the most famous red wines: Barolo and Barbaresco. Nebbiolo famously produces large clusters and is a late ripener with naturally high acidity and tannin. To honor our family heritage from Piemonte, we decided to grow two different clones of Nebbiolo at Regan Vineyards: Lampia and Michete. Both clones impart their unique qualities to our LA VITA blend and our 100% Nebbiolo wine.

This unique grape varietal from the Veneto region of Italy yields a wine with very deep purple color and a distinctive black pepper aroma. It ripens very late, and in some vintages is not picked until November. Along with the Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, the Refosco is blended into our proprietary wine LA VITA, which is aged in barrel and bottle for four years prior to release.
