Sustainable Winery Practice for November

Re-use of grape pomace

Every year BARGETTO WINERY generates significant amounts of pomace. Pomace is the waste product made up of skins and seeds generated either before fermentation (white wines) or after fermentation (red wines).  Our pomace is given to a local flower grower where it is used for fertilizer for the sandy alluvial soil found along Soquel Creek.  This is another example of sustainable re-use of an otherwise waste product. It also helps out a neighboring business and that never hurts
