Vine Stage: Bud-break (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Nebbiolo)
The
month of March is the transition from winter to spring. At Regan
Estate Vineyards, the pruners are finishing the task of
pruning approximately 25,000 vines! A dormant sulfur spray is
applied to kill over-wintered mildew spores.
March
is the month when bud-break occurs in the early varieties such
as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo. This is the first stage
of the life cycle of the vine, which is marked by little shoots
emerging from the dormant buds.
