Purchase 2005 Lodi Carignane

2005 Lodi Carignane Lodi has been a wine grape growing area as long as the Santa Cruz Mountains have been. While the two areas both produce wine grapes today, they are directed toward two different styles of wine. So, it is very exciting to have found Carignane planted in 1909, producing top quality wine. The Rauser Vineyard sits on the banks of the Mokelumne River. Knarled and still head pruned, the vines look as though they’ve been through 100 harvests. Carignane is a grape that is not regularly bottled as a varietal wine. Here at BARGETTO WINERY we like to highlight wines that are not always appreciated or available to the average wine buyer. The Carignane grapes for this wine come from ninety-year old vines that grow a few miles outside of Lodi. Carignane has traditionally, in California, been blended with other varietals such as Zinfandel and Petite Sirah to make red table wines that were consumed in the fifties and sixties. Carignane acreage is now a lot less than it was in the past. Aromas of red pie cherries, Cedar and floral overtones complement the soft tannins and acidity that is found in the wine. This wine will drink well as an aperitif or can be paired with pasta and chicken dishes. -Michael Sones, Winemaker Varietal Composition/Vineyard Source: 76% Carignane; Rauser Vineyards 21% Zinfandel; Rauser Vineyards 3% Zinfandel; Schmierer Vineyards Harvest Date: October 18, 2005 Harvest Sugar: 22.4° Brix Total Acid in Wine: 6.52gm/L Alcohol: 13% Residual Sugar: N/A Wine pH: 3.59 Malo-lactic: 100% Oak Aging 12 months American & French Oak Bottling Date: November 29, 2006 Cases produced:493
